VOLUNTEER

We are always asked at a tour if we take any volunteers and if we have volunteer programs. Although we do not have dedicated volunteer programs, we are always grateful for an extra set of hands and a heart that shares our passion in caring for our beautiful animals. If you do want to lend a hand next time you stay at Mabalingwe, please contact us to find out if there are any chores waiting for you at the park.

No expectation, no disappointment:

There will be some days that the staff beat you to it and all the work has already been completed, but we will communicate this to our volunteers when contacting us.

What to expect?

Meet our guide at Mabalingwe Game Reserve’s caravan park to accompany you to the animal sanctuary. Volunteers will spend a whole day at the sanctuary assisting with various tasks and return to the caravan park late afternoon.

Who can come?

Keep in mind that volunteer work will mostly include physical labour and therefore the recommended age to enter is between 16 - 60 years old. Please let us know if you have any disabilities or allergies and we will try to accommodate you as far as possible. A guide will be allocated to all the volunteers. Any children under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What to bring?

Please bring along:

- Your own lunch and bottled water. You can also purchase food and beverages from the shop at the Caravan Park.

- Any medication needed including antihistamine if you have allergies.

- Correct clothing (read 'What to Wear?' )

- Sunscreen

- Camera (optional)

- Your enthusiasm

What to wear?

Volunteers will be working outdoors without any cover for the whole day. This can include cleaning camps, working with hand tools, cutting grass and cleaning water troughs. Comfortable clothes with long sleeves and closed toe shoes are preferable for your own protection. A hat and sunscreen is also a requirement to work responsibly in the outdoors.

Personal protective equipment like working gloves and gumboots will be available to volunteers who do not have their own.
